Humble Pie

Not that he'll ever read this, but I'll kick off this post with an apology to Christian.

I seriously doubted his ability to move his wonderfully heavy table into our dining room without causing irreparable damage to either our house, the table or someone helping with the move.

I was wrong to ever have such doubts.

The boys pulled it off in about two minutes with nothing untoward occurring and then with many snide remarks thrown in my general direction after the move was accomplished.
I deserved most of the remarks I must admit!

So instead of capturing that horrible moment when it all went wrong, I instead have a photographic step-by-step guide on how to move a table.

Enjoy.

1)First of all, decide that four people is enough to move the table as no one can be bothered waiting for the latecomers to arrive to help.

2)Stand around for several minutes discussing the wonderful workmanship that went into making said table and generally admiring table. (Please ignore the seriously messy back yard. It will be transformed come summer comes, I guarantee!)

3)Turn table on it's side.

4) Position helpers around the table at strategically placed leg positions.

5) Lift.

6)Manoeuvre table through the doorway, making sure to avoid dropping table on feet or pinning digits against door frame.

7) Lift table fully into room and then turn right way up.

8) Tadda!

I must say I was very impressed with their effort! As I am usually wrong, I have learned to be the first to admit it so well done boys.

As usual with any LAN, there are always people that turn up horribly late and so it takes a rather long time to get everything hooked up, downloaded and connected, ready to go.
Tiho had been the first person to turn up at about half ten that morning and I think it was about three thirty that the boys played their first proper game.
In this in-between time I amused myself by sorting through old photos. The gym are having a photo wall and want everyone to bring in baby pictures of themselves and then everyone has to guess who is who. I don't have a lot of pics here of me when I was younger that aren't school photos, but I eventually found one to take in. I hope to get my scanner up and running soon so I can post some of the photos I was looking at, but the one I found is of me and my two sisters. I must have been about two or three as Barb is just a baby in it and I had rather blonde hair. I also found a 2nd birthday card from my Nanna and Grandpop calling me their 'little goldilocks'. I had almost forgotten that in the first few years of my life I was a natural blonde! How things change! Of course, my mother has no qualms now telling me she always thought I was a little evil looking, blonde hair with black eyes. Apparently I freaked her out as a baby! lol Makes me feel so loved! ;-)

Anyway, the boys finally got everything sorted and then played a flurry of games. I know they played Company of Heroes because Christian has played that so often lately that I recognise it, but as for the other games, they did tell me what they were called but I honestly can't remember. One of them was quite fun to watch, one team are some kind of dodgy aliens and the other are humans and they run around trying to kill each other. Christian morphed into some big spider type of alien so big that he couldn't fit down some of the walkways and had to go the long way round to kill people...
This really isn't interesting, is it?
I'll stop going on about it and just show you some photos then.

Tessa kicked Ben off his chair at one point and sat watching the screen. Of course as soon as I came anywhere near her with the camera she's jump up and look at me, trying to figure out what I was doing. It was much funnier when it looked like she was playing :(

This is just a shot of some of the guys playing around the 'table'. I didn't actually manage to get a very clear photo of any of them, you can just see Mike from around the side of his puter (he didn't know I had my camera at that point - after that anytime I came near he pulled his hat down over his face to hide). Scott is in the corner, Spencer has his back to the camera (I hadn't met him before tonight, he came with Tiho when Tihos' brother couldn't make it) and Lance is off to the side in the striped shirt. Glen hadn't yet arrived, but in the end they managed to fit five guys and their puters around the 'table'.

Ben grabbed my camera and took this photo. I just had time to hide behind Christian slightly so you don't get to see my huge arse! ;-)

At the exact moment I took this shot, Christian had just finished killing Mike's character. He let out a huge whoop and Mike swore at him for about a full minute (apparently it was a rather nifty shot). One of these days I'll remember I have video on my camera...

Tiho looking cute as usual.

I tried three times to get a photo of Sexy Mikes' shirt. I thought it rather appropriate for the evening.
At seven I left the boys and went and called Mouse. It was wonderful to chat to her again on the phone as with the time differences between us, it's rare that I get to have a good chat with her on msn or MoH. Plus, you just can't beat an actual conversation.
We chatted for about two and a half hours about various things, and it was great to catch up. She made the comment again that I sound very Aussie (not as Aussie as the actors on Neighbours or Home and Away but still Aussier than she remembered) and said it was funny to hear Aussie geeks in the background as opposed to the Scottish geeks she's used to. I told the boys to say hello and they did so very unenthusiastically I must say. I then mentioned that I was talking to a hot Scottish chick and that got a slightly more enthusiastic response (what did I expect really, they are geeks after all...).

After I got off the phone I sat about watching the guys play Soldat (I think it's called anyway). By half eleven I'd almost fallen asleep onto Mike's mouse pad so I thought it was about time I went to bed. At seven this morning I woke up and Christian, Sexy Mike and Ben were just finishing playing their last game. I honestly don't know how they do it. I'm not passionate about anything enough to forgo my sleep.

Of course, now Christian is asleep and the house is quite. I should start cleaning up, my house is a pigsty now.

One thing Christian didn't think of however is that I now have a huge heavy table sitting in my dining room and no one to move it back outside.

*sigh*

Can't wait for the weekend.

Apart from the fact that this week has been rather ordinary at work, I'm looking forward to the weekend as my house is going to be invaded by nerds.

Not something every woman would be particularly thrilled about, but then again, I'm not your average woman.
I actually have a 'thing' for nerds.
Take my husband for example. He works in IT, comes home and plays on his computer, when he gets bored with that he might play one of his many wii games or perhaps have a go at Guitar Hero on his PS2. If he's not meeting up online with one of his mates for a game of Company of Heroes he might head to bed early with his trusty DS until he feels tired. He's tall and super skinny, refuses to wear denim of any kind, has glasses and is uber smart. He loves animé, follows several online comics and reads fantasy novels when he gets the chance. Ask him what he thinks are the top films ever made and he'll inform you that LOTR and Transformers tie for first place. Pretty much a nerd in every sense of the word.

And I love it!

Why? you ask. Well, there are many advantages. I always know where he is. There has never been one night when I have sat at home wondering what my dear beloved is getting up to, or into. If I have any technological questions I have my personal help line, he fixes my puter (in fact he built it out of spare parts), he's nifty with any kind of machine so he also services my car. He's awesome at quiz nights and we can have an entire conversation almost entirely in movie quotes. It's a laugh the majority of the time. Of course, there are times when it's not all super sweet. He has little patience and refuses to believe I followed all the instructions when downloading that software (If you'd really done it properly it would be where it's supposed to be) and occasionally I get the feeling he regrets marrying someone as completely daft as me but it seems to work most of the time.

Also, there's his nerdy friends.

Now, I'm not talking the movie-stereotypical-never-get-a-girl type of nerds (for the most part), but they love their puters and their magic cards and if they happen to be hot, good looking guys then really, it's just an added advantage, yeah?
So, back to the weekend. Christian is having a LAN and somehow (magic must be involved somewhere) we are supposedly fitting ten guys and their computers into our tiny little house.
Ok, not really tiny if you compare it to Boo's old flat, but it's still rather small.

I absolutely love LAN weekends. Most women would roll their eyes and be out the door in two seconds but I really enjoy them. It's so much fun sitting around, chatting to the guys, having a laugh and watching them play whatever games it is their playing. And watching them...

So, there's going to be ten guys. One is my hubby who is the sexiest of them all. One of them I'm secretly in love with (doesn't take much to figure out who that is!). Two of them are absolutely gorgeous, three of them are hotter than the average guy, one I've not met but if he's anything like his brother, he'll be darn sexy, one is Mikey and as my brother-in-law I'm not allowed to comment on his attractiveness (but what does four crushes throughout high school tell you?) and one is unfortunately a movie-stereotypical-never-get-a-girl type.

I'll be having the time of my life! And for those of you who think I'm a tart I'd just like to say that you're very much mistaken.

The word you want is trollop ;-)

I did ask Christian where he was going to fit everyone and he has informed me that the table he built for outside will be bought inside and they'll use that. Now, for those of you who didn't see the pic, I posted about it here a while ago (last pic of the post). The table is made out of a mixture of Jarrah and Karri , the majority Jarrah which is one of the hardest woods around. Also one of the heaviest. It takes five or six men to lift the table and each side is about a metre and a half wide.
Lets just say I laughed derisively when he told me his plans.
I pointed out that it's too heavy and big to bring inside to which he replied that since there will be ten of them here, it won't be a problem to lift. I then pointed out that our back door isn't wide enough for it to fit through. His come back to this? We'll tip it on it's side and kind of roll it through.

Uh huh. Yup. *nods* No problems. Can't possibly see any flaws in that plan. Nothing could go wrong. You beauty. Simple as. Yup.

Needless to say I shall be on hand with my camera to capture the exact moment when the plan falls to pieces and everything goes terribly wrong so I can then share them with you, and the rest of the world.

Until then my loves :)

Like sands through the hour glass

Yesterday was the eleventh anniversary of Christian and me being together. A lot of people say we're silly to celebrate that particular date considering we're married now but to us, this anniversary, as opposed to our wedding one, is much more important. We were togther for seven and a half years before tying the knot and all that really did was make the whole thing official. We'd much rather celebrate the date we met than the day we signed some papers and had a fancy cake.

Anyway, we decided to go out for dinner and, long story short, both my sisters and super intellegent, hunky sex god brother Mike came too. We had a good night out, even though my dress never arrived in time so I had to wear something different. I only got one photo the whole night because I just plain forgot, and the photo I got isn't very good at all, but here it is.

Let's just say these types of photos don't usually work out when someone has really short arms and is trying to take a photo of themselves and someone who is much taller...

So anyway, it was a good night and after dinner Barb and Mike came back to our place, bringing with them what seemed like an entire liquor store. We had fun making up different cocktails but as usual, even with such a large quantity of booze at my disposal, I didn't get drunk.

Nothing else has really been happening. I was rather sick last week with a nasty tummy bug but I seem to have survived. Before soccer on Wednesday we went to Tiho's house so the boys could play Magic. I guess watching a group of guys (most much older than myself) play a card game based on you being a wizard can rub off because I've asked Christian to teach me how to play it. I believe my transformation into full blown nerd is almost complete.

It was a bit of a sad week at work because one of our regular customers died. She was a rather disturbed older lady who was always a pain to serve (man could she berate you on bad handwriting!) but she had had a hard life and was always in a lot of pain. She ended her life herself in the most horribe way imaginable - she set fire to herself but hopefully she has found some peace now.

And the only other news I have is that after seven years together Mike and Julie have broken up. They were always an odd couple and I could never understand the relationship but it seemed to have worked for them to a degree. I was a little shocked when I heard the news but I guess not overly surprised. Julie is apparently heading off down south as she's been appointed as priestess of some strange religion...go figure. Christian says Mike has been a bit moody but he's not sure if it's because of the split or because of the giving-up smoking. With Mike it's sometimes hard to tell. Oh and I'd just like to say :P to Brother Mike for his little comment. When he found out about the split he said to Barb 'Oh, so has Nettie called it off with Christian yet?'.

Mike's hot and all, but he's no Christian.

Ok my loves, that's about it for now. I've promised Boo when my dress arrives I shall get many photos for you all so you have that to look forward to anyway.

Ciao.

Nerd Alert! Nerd Alert!

*sigh*
How quickly the weekend goes. One minute you're leaving work on Friday night and it seems the very next minute you're heading to bed on Sunday, dreading the next morning.

I had a good weekend though. On Saturday we went out to dinner at La Porcetta, an Italian restaurant that's always pretty good, followed by an evening of playing pool (and God forbid, I had to play! We only had four of us there so I got included automatically).

On Sunday, Christian had a bunch of mates around to play Magic cards (don't anyone say a word! I mean it!).

On the left is Tiho, Christian and sexy Mike, and on the right at the front is brother-in-law Mike, Dan and barely visible Scott.

While the boys were entertaining themselves, Kat and I went out for a bush walk, taking Max with us.

Max (short for Max factor 2000) belongs to sexy Mike and is a gorgeous dog. She has such a nice nature, never runs off or barks. I'm not sure exactly which breed she is, Mike just describes her as half goat, half doormat. We went into the bush surrounding the Weir and then Kat and I decided to go up to John Forrest National Park. After dropping Max back off with the boys we made our way up there and went for a hike to the falls and the tunnel. The falls weren't exactly spectacular after such a dry winter but the tunnel is always so much fun.

Some pesky kids were riding their bikes through it which wasn't the smartest thing in the world as the ground is pretty uneven and half way through it gets so dark the only thing you can see is the light at the end, but we managed to make it through unscathed.

Our little hike ended up being roughly six kms (maybe slightly more) so it turned into a good walk. The weather was gorgeous, the sun was shining and we had a great time. Then we headed back home to watch Father Ted and Eddie Izzard which rounded off the evening rather well even if I do say so myself!

The Count Down Begins

My philosophy this weekend was to cram as much as I could into three days so the time would fly by and then the day I leave for Scotland would be so much closer!

On Friday after work I met up with a Kat, a girlfriend of mine who works with Christian. We were going to Sexpo, an adults only exhibition being held at the Perth Convention Centre. We didn't really know what to expect as we'd not been before but we were both thinking it wouldn't be as risque as it was made out to be. Upon entering our minds were changed by the topless women handing out brochures. If we got to see boobs within thirty seconds it couldn't be that prudish!

We both had immense fun there. We rode 'The Gerbil', a ghost train with a bit of a difference. Apart from the fact the handlebars were erect dicks, we were bamboozled with scenes of bondage, S&M and golden showers, not the sort of thing you'd find at the Royal Show.

We got to have a feel of all the vibrating goodies at a toy stall and we bought showbags and then headed off to see a strip show and a lingerie parade.

We left to go get some dinner and met up with Christian, Dan and sexy Mike who had been having their own fun at a nerdy Magic tournament. Apparently there had been a geek punch up, however the bloody noses didn't stop the nerds from playing for long and soon all was forgiven.

We headed off for a few games of pool, Kat and I enjoying ourselves immensely as Mike got changed in front of us. Then we all headed back to Kats place until the wee hours of the morning, finally getting home at 4:30 to find two very hungry dogs waiting for us.

Last night we went to a Tarantino Theme party for a friend's 25th. It was a great night but we didn't stay out too long as we were both pretty buggered. After one of the guys demonstrated his fire baton twirling skills we headed off, but not before I remembered to get some pics (I always take my camera but never remember to take any photos). The ones of me and Christian were taken here before we went out but the rest are from the party.

This is me as a very unconvincing vampire

Christian as Mr Pink

Dan as Kevin from Sin City

Mike (not sexy Mike, but still rather hot I reckon) as Seth from Dusk Till Dawn, some random guy I don't know dressed as some character I don't know, and Glenn, dressed as a generic victim from any number of films

Julie, our lovely hostess, dressed as Alabama from True Romance

So, soccer this arvo, last minute packing and shopping for stuff I've forgotten tomorrow, then off to catch up with my sisters before I leave, work on Tuesday and then Wednesday I leave. Yay! See, the time is flying by already!
