Okie, I've been saying I'll do it for a while now so here it finally is. My 'things to do before I kick the bucket' list. One item for each year I've been on this Earth.
1. Take dancing lessons. *
2. Join a choir. I can't sing but I love doing it and in a choir no one can hear your squeals ;-)
3. Finish the story I've been working on for years but keep putting off because I don't have time.
4. Have a baby.
5. Travel to Canada to see my Dad. *
6. Travel to New Zealand.
7. See snow up close and personal (meaning not seeing snow on a distant mountain while driving to Loch Ness)
8. Own my dream car, if I can ever figure out exactly what it is.
9. Own a brand new, never been driven car.
10. Pay off the mortgage.
11. Retire.
12. Travel around Australia.
13. Walk into the caldera of a volcano.
14. Take a tour of The Zone of Alienation, Chernobyl and Pripiat.
15. Visit Edinburgh again.
16. Have another MoH reunion. *
17. Grow old with Christian.
18. Win lotto (how realistic does this list have to be???)
19. Finally put up a patio.
20. Teach my niece how to drive when she's old enough.
21. Go on another cruise.
22. Gain more self confidence.
23. Overcome my fear of the dentist so I actually go.
24. Become more assertive.
25. Find and then keep more friends who don't take advantage of me.
26. Learn how to heel-toe properly.
27. Fork out the ridiculous amount of money for coloured contacts so I can have green eyes, if only for a little while.
28. Die before Christian. I couldn't stand being alive without him. Preferably we'd die together. Or maybe he'd kill me in a murder/suicide. Which is likely since I drive him mad. But that would still qualify as me dying before him. Unless of course his aim is off centre, then he shoots himself and then I die later from blood loss.
Crap. Maybe I should discuss this with him...
Oh, the * stands for items that I will hopefully be able to cross of my list by the end of this year. I'm taking Jazz Funk classes as of next week, Boo and Mouse are coming to visit me in October for two weeks and I'm going to visit my Dad the following two weeks.

Like a Japanese Tourist
I've got a rather large photo post for you lot today, mainly due to me playing tourist this weekend. I'd gone up to visit my Mum on Saturday and while I was up the hill Jo and I decided to take a run out to the weir. I took lots and lots of photos, and was so excited by some of the content of these photos that Christian asked me 'Are you a bloody Japanese tourist???'.
Not quite Christian but I do get excited about things that you have obviously become apathetic towards.
Shall we begin?
First of all I've got a few pics that aren't from this weekend but from last weekend. Their purpose is to show you my new hair colour because that's the most important bit, yes? ;-)
This is Jess, Clelie and I from Clelie's leaving do at the Riverbank Winery.

Not the best job of portraying the red in my hair but for some reason Mouse seems to like drunk Nettie photos and this is a very drunk Nettie photo. Taken at Mel and Jann's engagement party last weekend.

Ok, onto more exciting photos.
Jo, Darce and I had parked at the main carpark of the weir and were a bit annoyed to find that the usual crowd of roos weren't hanging about. I've lived in the hills since I was a kid and I never stop getting excited when I see kangaroos. I'm such an unobservant person that I tend to miss a lot of stuff that goes on around me (just ask anyone who has ever tried getting my attention while walking past me in a shopping centre) so when I do actually see wildlife, my excitement levels go through the roof.
Anyway, we'd left the carpark and were walking down the millions of steps to the weir wall when we detoured through some gardens into slightly uncharted territory.
Which is to say that we'd never ventured that way before.
We stumbled upon a toilet block and while Jo took Darce there, I wandered over to a huge granite outcropping and was going to take some photos of South Ledge off in the distance.
I heard a crash in the bush and turned to see this fellow staring warily at me.

Looks a bit shocked, doesn't he?
And there were more!

Jo and Darce came out of the loos and I gestured to them to be quiet and scoot carefully up onto the granite. They crept up and we spent a good ten minutes just watching the roos. After a little while the roos let down their guard slightly but always kept one eye on us. I think they were quite happy when we scooted down off the rocks and left them be.
We walked down onto the weir wall itself and took a stroll out to the middle. The day had started off quite overcast and windy, though still warm and the water was quite choppy.

Darcie made it as far as the pump station in the middle of the wall but then freaked out and wouldn't go any further out. I agree with her sentiments regarding this. The first bit up till the pump station is concrete and very wide. You feel relatively safe. The rest of it is a narrow wooden walkway with gaps through which you can see the huge drop beneath you.
I don't feel safe at all walking across it.

While Jo escorted a panicking Darcie back to the safely of solid ground I noticed these doors on the pump station. I rather liked them so I took this photo.

We started to climb down some more steps to the bottom of the weir wall but halfway down we thought we'd check out a track we'd never followed before. It led around the side of the hill and took us out to the bottom of the granite outcrop we'd seen the roos from. We spotted them again, this time slightly uphill from us and had another peek before carrying on.
After a while we came across these ancient stone steps leading up the hill. They must have been built back in the days when the weir was first built and was a popular picnic spot for the citizens of Perth. Of course back then it was a full day trip to visit the weir as the journey was made by train.

The stairs wound all the way up the hill and for some time followed the pipeline.

After we'd finished at the weir we took a drive up to South Ledge. I have only been to North Ledge before and wanted to see what the views were like from the other side.
At South Ledge they've made a viewing platform they call Golden Views, since water is more precious than gold in these parts.

The view of the weir from the platform.

They have these funny little totem pole things at the entrance to the platform and they have the most wonderful carvings on them.

After we left South Ledge we headed back into Mundaring and got some lunch before heading off to Sculpture Park. I'd been meaning to drop by there and get some pics of some of the sculptures there for The Worst of Perth as many of them are quite hideous and creepy.
These are the weird little clone tourists that have been there for years. I remember when they first went up, you'd drive past thinking that they were real people standing amongst the trees but upon closer inspection you were scarred for life by their creepiness.

They're quite small and Darcie looks huge next to them. I'd asked her to pose beside one and she just stood there, looking a bit worried. When I asked her to put her arm around it, she shrieked and moved away several steps. It took a bit of convincing but she finally snuggled up to it and eventually found it quite funny.

Darcie of course demanded payment for the previous photo and that was to let her take a photo of me with the creepy clone woman. I actually look tall! Yay!

One of the other sculptures there has been made into a bench that you could sit on if you found cement to be soothing to aching joints after a long walk.
A bit weird, but arty yes?

Errr, maybe not from this angle.

This is the angle you see from the road if you look far enough back into the park. My gutter mind makes me laugh at it every single time.
And that's about it for now. I'll have another post for you soon as I've promised Neo I'll get my own list together. Till then, take care :)

The worst of Perth
The last few days haven't been the best for me. Last Thursday I woke up and found that I couldn't move my neck from side to side and when I even attempted to it hurt like crazy.
I'm stubborn though and since my next chiro appointment wasn't for another month I plodded off to work and just put up with it. I felt like, and must have looked like, a robot. My moves were so stiff and mechanical.
Stubbornness however can't break the pain barrier and by Thursday night I had to admit to myself that I had to make a chiro appointment - pronto. My regular guy was away on holidays but his brother (also a chiro) fills in for him and so I had no problems getting an appointment the next day.
Naturally (this is me we're talking about) I felt guilty about not going into work, especially on a Friday but my neck had gotten to the point that I had no choice. Apart from sharp stabby nerve pinchy pains I also has muscle soreness from trying to hold my neck straight and a constant headache, probably caused by tension.
My fill-in chiro figured out what was wrong (sublaxation C5 was mentioned but I only have a vague idea of what that means) and started the slow process of fixing me. He also gave me a certificate for work and told me I was to take it easy for the entire weekend and was also to stay home today.
So, in between an achy neck, spasms of guilt and bouts of feeling sorry for myself, I had to find a way to keep myself occupied today. Mikey had mentioned to me a blog called The Worst of Perth so I thought I'd check it out. It was well worth it!
Basically it's a blog that highlights the low points of Perth. Dodgy sculptures, god awful architecture, painful colour schemes, the lot. The guy who runs the site must live around my area because the surrounding areas feature prominently. The purple church across the road from me gets a dishonourable mention, and there are so many places on Morley Drive featured (that's the major road I live just off of) that the whole road has become a bit of a joke.
I know that at the end of this year (how I wish it were sooner) a few of you are going to come visit me so I highly recommend that you check out the site and make a list of the worst places in Perth you'd like to sightsee to. I think it's going to be a heap of fun!

Aloha 2008
I don't really have anything super exciting to post about - just thought the new year deserved a new post.
I had a quiet New Years, just Christian and I, Mel and Jann and it was really nice. We had a barbie at Mel's place and just chatted the night away.
I hope you all had a great New Years and I'm sure 2008 is going to be a good year for us all!

Hero Hubby, Boiling Boxing Day and Facebook Flings
Well, it's been a rather eventful past couple of days I must say.
Christmas Eve was really rather quiet at work which was a real pleasure. We got out on time which for us means an early night. Jo and Darce met us at our place, we picked up pizza and headed into King's Park for our traditional Chrissy Eve. Barb and her brood were meeting us there and we had picked the new playground as our meeting spot.
Barb had taken the kids there a few weeks back and apparently it's pretty amazing. There's a huge rope climbing frame, a wooden fire engine, a pirate ship and castle, flying foxes, the lot.
Let's just say the kids enjoyed themselves immensely.
Up until the climbing frame...

It's a pretty huge frame, its about ten metres high and is made from proper rope - not that bendy rubber junk most climbing frames are made from. Anyway, the kids and I were having a climb, testing our courage.
Well, I was at least. The kids didn't seem to be too bothered by the height.
Darce scampered almost all the way to the top and was standing in the middle on the second highest platform. She had been up there for a while, insisting she was fine when I noticed she was crying. Chiara had been hanging onto some rope and bouncing up and down causing the whole frame to move significantly. This scared the absolute shit out of poor Darce and she just froze. I asked if she wanted one of us to climb up and get her and she all she could do was nod through her tears.
At this point I was already halfway up but already past my comfort zone. I could have probably reached her ok but getting down with her was an altogether different matter. So Christian volunteered to go to my niece's rescue and monkeyd his way up to her.
It was just the sweetest thing. Once he reached her he made her hold on round his neck and then he inch by inch worked his way downwards, always making sure that Darce could reach the next rope without feeling too scared.
I think I fell in love with him all over again.
Yes, I know, it's a tad soppy but this was coming from the Iceman who doesn't ever really show what many would call 'human emotions'. I have every right to be soppy!
Anyway, so Christian was now Darcie's (and everyone else's) hero and my poor hubby is getting annoyed with me telling everyone I see the story. I don't think that will change anytime soon!
So Christmas was a really nice day. It was rather quite compared to our normal huge family day. It was just Christian, Jo, Darce and I until that night when we'd be going round to Barb's.
Jo and I watched Hairspray while Christian and Darcie played the new Simpson's game that Darce got for Christmas.
It was very quiet and very relaxing and I really enjoyed it even though it was a bit hot.
But if I thought Christmas had been hot, boy did Boxing Day surprise me.
And everyone else in Perth.
It reached 44.2C or thereabouts and we were officially the hottest place on Earth that day. It was also the hottest December day ever for our little city.
It was absolutely nasty.
After a day spent boiling at the Lake, Christian, Barb and I headed to the movies with Mel to see The Golden Compass. It was there that I was brutally reminded of another downside to having such hot weather. Air con just doesn't cope in extreme heat. It was so hot in the the cinema that I couldn't sit still. I fidgeted the whole way through and every time Christian put his hand on my knee I'd swat it away like a wasp. I just couldn't stand being touched it was so hot.
I was so irritable by the heat that I almost had a full on temper tantrum when they ended the movie a good six chapters before the book finished. What happened to the rest of the story??? The ending in the book is a much better ending for the movie that the mediocre conclusion they filmed.
Grrrrr. It makes me mad!
The next morning my irritability was soon erased after a message that was left for me on Facebook.
Now, for someone who spends so much time on this interweb, I seem to have done a good job of avoiding all those sleezy kind of back-alley sites. I tend to spend my time in respectable company like the MoH crowd (*sniggers slightly*). My point being that I'm still rather naive.
So imagine my surprise when I discovered I had this message on Facebook.
hey annette
look i might be miles off the mark but when yu say on your profile you like random play, would you explain cause im a young irish guy and im just over in perth for a year and i am attracted to married women, and you are beautiful if you wanna have a little secret give me a message back and we can go for drinks or something
Robbie :)
Riiiiight.
I must say I was actually shocked. I was actually in awe at the nerve. I was flabbergasted.
I emailed Christian to share with him my adventure and all he could reply with was 'He he, go Facebook!'. Gotta love the support...
I am also looking for advice on if I should reply to this message with a scathing reply (maybe something like 'Punctuation and grammar go a long way when picking up chicks') or just ignore it completely.
Anyway, I'll look forward to your ideas.

Straight Jacket Needed
I think I'm going insane.
Ok, maybe I was already there, but I'm certainly more insane now than I was two weeks ago.
The reason? My neighbour.
Andy, our delightful neighbour who lives directly across the road from us isn't exactly the ideal neighbour. Sure he seems friendly, waves when you're watering the garden, doesn't cause any trouble and seems to get along fairly well with everyone around. Unfortunately he has this...annoying habit that is the cause of my marbles going missing.
Andy likes to play music.
But he'll only play one song at a time.
Over and over.
For hours on end (and no, I'm NOT exaggerating)
Loud enough for the entire neighbourhood to hear.
Andy has a wide taste in music - he'll play anything from ACDC to folk music to kiddie nursery rhymes. Of late his song of choice has been a foreign language folk song that has lots of cow bell in it and has an eerily similar tune to Advance Australia Fair. Before this, for the longest time he would only play a Country and Western song which I guess to be called All you ever do is bring me down. When the children next door to him request it, he'll also play How Much is that Doggie in the Window or The Chicken Dance Song.
When we first moved in it took us a little while to figure out what was going on. You do kind of tune out the noise from around you but after a while your consciousness will prod you in the back of the head and say 'Oi, you can't ignore that any longer - it's the same song being played over and over!'.
It's amazing how mad it actually drives you.
The fact that I've been on holidays for the past two weeks and have been at home more than I usually am has really compounded the issue. You notice it all the time.
The problem I have is that I don't really feel like I can say anything to him about this. The volume he plays it at may be loud enough for us to hear it but I don't think it's actually anywhere near the volume of which you can make a complaint about. Add to this is the fact that not so long ago (before I moved in but I'm sure while my Dad was living here) Andy had a stroke. So I do wonder if this has affected his memory and he doesn't actually remember playing the song so he'll play it again. And then lastly, everyone else on the street has been here much longer than us and so it feels kind of rude for it to be the relative newbies on the street to complain. I'm pretty sure someone at some point must have said something anyway (out of everyone living in the area I'm sure someone has snapped in the past) so I don't think it would really do me any good.
The silver lining is that my holidays are over now and I go back to work on Monday so I should start to regain what little of my senses I have remaining to me.
If I don't, hopefully they'll allow my internet access at the asylum.

Another Vid
I tried posting this yesterday along with my Pinnacle photos but for some reason Blogger was being temperamental and wouldn't upload this one.
Really, it's just some odd chick called Nettie rambling on and on but you know, thought I'd post it anyway...

The Pinnacles
Rightio chaps, big post for you today, and I mean BIG. As in so big Acci's computer may have a slight mental breakdown. I have lots of photos and also a video for you, in which you can hear my lovely voice. This should appease my Father as he had a bit of a whinge the other day that none of us brood are uploading many photos lately. So, Dad, this is for you!
Okie, so first of all, I'm on holidays. Yaaaaaaaay! Ever so excited. So far I've done lots of Christmas shopping (although not much posting of pressies so some will get overseas rather late), I've spent time with my sisters, watched several romantic comedies and have probably put on about four kilos since I've been eating junk and not much else.
But hey, that's what holidays are for!
On the first Saturday of my break I attended my final work do of the year which was a day at the races with my old branch. I don't really enjoy the races much although it was more fun this year as we won a bit of money. $170 makes any day more fun :-)
I didn't get a lot of pics of that day but here are the few I got.
My and K-Lee and her rather over-sized hat.

Oh yes, that's better, push it more upwards. Now she can see!!!

K-Lee, myself and my team leader Heather. None of us actually work at my old branch anymore but we all went to the function. I was told I was going and wasn't given a choice, Heather went last year and so was invited again this year and K-Lee just invited herself along. But we all had fun so that's what's important.

My older sister Jo and I have been planning for a while now to go to The Pinnacles. It's a bit of a drive and I hadn't been before so why did we really need any other reason?
We set off early this morning and it wasn't long before Darcie got very, very bored in the car. She had a colouring in book to keep her amused but as per usual with kids, that only kept her occupied for about ten minutes. We hadn't even hit GinGin before she was asking if we were there yet.
Anyway, so we eventually got to the park and Darcie got to have her first adventure of the day. Using 'Hole in the Ground' toilets for the very first time. For those of you not familiar with this contraption, it looks almost identical to a normal public toilet but there's no flush mechanism or toilet bowl, just a metal shoot heading down into a pit. It's pretty standard for loos out in the middle of nowhere with no easy water source nearby but it can be a little unnerving the first time you use them.
Perhaps it's the draught.
Or wondering what's going to crawl up out of the pit.
Or Darcie in the cubicle over wondering out loud how many babies have fallen in.
We were just lucky that it was actually a cool day (not typical for December here) and it didn't smell...
Anyway, so we headed off into the park and started to drive around the track, stopping here and there to take photos.
I apologise now if you don't find rocks very exciting.
Darcie and I in front of one of the Pinnacles. Jo doesn't do photos so she refused to let me take one of her and Darce.

Darcie's photo of me. She loves taking photos and I must remember to give her my old digital camera one of these days.

Umm, are you thinking what I'm thinking? Cos I'm sure you know what I'm thinking...

The Pinnacle Queen waves down upon the serfs.

Oooh, more rocks!

I can't remember who it was who told me this, but someone once said that going to the Pinnacles is a little like being on the moon. I found this to be a really adequate description except that it's yellow...

It's a little like a graveyard actually.

Today was actually very cold, which is very odd for December. When we were planning the trip we were expecting temps in the high 30's, early 40's but we all took jackets and wore them most of the day.
The clouds really added to the atmosphere though.

It's amazing how far the desert stretches. You just wouldn't believe it as you drive into the park, surrounded by scrubland and bushes.

The Pinnacle Queen telling us to hurry back to the car so we can go to the beach.

Darce wasn't actually as sulky as she looks here but she was playing at being the Pinnacle Queen, ordering us to get in the car right this intsant.

We couldn't help but stop at the lookout and take some more photos.

Surprise, surprise, more rocks!

The Queen and the Ninja. I didn't realise I was wearing both my Ask a Ninja hat and t-shirt until half way through the day.

Dammit this little girl is getting heavy. I can hardly pick her up any more.

No matter how big she gets, Darcie hasn't lost her love of the camera.

On our way out, I found the real Pinnacle Queen!

After the Pinnacles we drove down into Cervantes and stopped off at the bay there to have lunch. The photos really don't do the place justice, you just needed to be there to see just how green the water was up close to the shore and how aqua blue it was out deeper.

Nettie warned it would be cold...

Quit saying 'Told you so!'

This is a video I took and even the video doesn't do the place justice. It was at this point that I remembered the video function on my camera and cursed myself for not remembering sooner. I would have loved to have taken one of the actual Pinnacles instead of fifty thousand photos!
Ok, well that's about it for now. Hope all your puters survived the trip to the Pinnacles with me and that you're happy with the post Dad!
Bye for now :)

A ball of a time
Last night I had the bank's social club Christmas function which was a Charity Ball. It was held in a ballroom at the Hyatt Regency hotel in the city and was a pretty glam affair (as far as bank social occasions go).
I had a fantastic time and I'll post a few pics but I won't go as overboard as I did with the river cruise. I know it's not heaps of fun looking at hundreds of photos of people you don't know.
This is K-Lee, myself and Jess.

Our branch had the most amount of people attend from a single branch - we took up two tables. This was our first attempt at getting a group shot but the guy taking the pic had a bit of trouble using my camera so you can probably tell that some of our group got a bit bored standing in the same place for five minutes. (These pics are just of the bank staff, not partners as well. I think there was about 20 of us all up).

We'll try it again shall we, but this time we'll line up.

This is my branch manager Di. She's the loveliest boss you could ever ask for, I'm very lucky to have someone like her around.

And finally this is me and Dan. I used to work with Dan over a year ago but he was transferred to Broome. I've missed him so much, I have never met anyone funnier. You always have a laugh when Dan's around. He's just recently been promoted to Branch Manager and has been moved to York which is only about an hour and a half from Perth. Hopefully I'll catch up with him more now.

Not too much else has been happening. I'm going to try and get my Christmas tree and decorations up today since I'm a bit behind this year. Usually it's all up and done by now but for some reason time has just gotten away from me this year. I've got holidays at the beginning of December and I think my brain has just decided it's going to just get everything done then.
Stupid brain.
I like getting things done early for Christmas!
I haven't sent any international presents or cards yet so I'm warning everyone now, they most likely won't get there in time for Christmas!
I've hardly started my Christmas present shopping yet. I have no idea what to get for the darn husband of mine. He's always so hard to buy for! I think it won't be anything too exciting.
And that's about it really. Same old, same old as usual. But I can live with that :)

Cruising
It's not even half way through November yet but we're well into the swing of Christmas Parties for the year. I'm attending three work dos this year, one for my current branch, one with my old branch and a generic bank social club charity ball.
On Saturday I went to the first one of the season - a river cruise for my current branch. I managed to convince Christian to attend one of them and I think in the end he was glad he came. Whereas at my old branch everyone is much older than us, the people I work with now are much closer to us in age and so we have more in common.
We had to fight our way down to Barrack St Jetty as there was a festival on in Northbridge, a Justin Timberlake concert plus a Muse concert all happening at once. It's a miracle we managed to find parking within a ten block radius of the jetty!
Anyway, it was a fantastic night and I managed to get lots of photos which, naturally, I'll share with you all, whether you like it or not!
This is Jess and her partner Paul. Jess and I work on the business line together although she's recently been trained up in sales and will soon be leaving the teller's line.

This is Clelie, Rachel and Elaine, the blonde brigade.

This is Laura (on the right) and her partner Leanne. Laura is the third member of the business trio and works out processing the express business deposits. Laura and I get on fabulously and had a wonderful time that night. Last Thursday I cam into work all frantic because I'd had a bad dream that when I met Leanne she didn't like me. It was awful! But Leanne was just gorgeous and apparently likes me (and Christian) lots so I was very relieved! We've already agreed that we'll all get together soon for another night out because we all get on so well.

Oh hurrah, there were Christmas Crackers at the tables and for some reason most people found it entertaining to wear them.
Our table didn't participate...

This is Kristie-Lee who works in sales, her fiancé Lee and our branch manager Di. Both Kristie and Di are such fun, you always end up laughing around them.

This is Heather, my team leader and Kay, our business manager.

Rachel is our old team leader and looks absolutely fabulous now she's left the bank. I envy her, I really do. Mid thirties and retired!!! It's just not fair!

Laura, Leanne and I wanted a Titanic photo but we were all too scared to actually climb up on the front bit (not to mention that we'd probably have been kicked off the boat for doing so) so we settled for this.

They're just the cutest couple!

A photo of Christian actually smiling! I should post the one of him looking positively grumpy but I think I'll stick with the happy ones.
Everyone commented that they love his shirt which you can't really see in this shot. It's got a manga type picture on the front and back and we discovered a lot of manga fans on board that night.

Kristie-Lee grabbed my camera later that night to make sure that Christian and I had a photo together. I tried to tell her I'd (surprisingly) already gotten several but that didn't deter her. (I should mention for those who care that this is the dress I was wearing the other night for those who wanted to know just how low cut it was!)

Christian then took several photos of Kristie-Lee and myself. K-Lee didn't like them much so kept on making Christian take photo after photo until she found one she liked.

After all of that she much preferred the photo that I took of us.

This is Grace, who I'm training at the moment. She's such a lovely lady and is so helpful. Her first day in the branch and she's answering phones, jumping onto the meet-and-greet desk. Such a trooper!

Ok, now he's starting to get annoyed with all the photos...

After a while, I went back inside and Christain stayed outside playing with my camera. I'd wanted to get some pics of the city but we were having trouble with my night mode and all the different settings. But a few of them worked out quite well.
I love this shot.

And this one.

And this is a photo I took at the beginning of the night as we were leaving the jetty. Perth has our own Hollywood sign! How cool is that! I think they only put it up for the Red Bull Air Race and I'm sure they'll take it down soon but I thought it was cool. Now, it would have been really tacky if they'd shoved it up on the hill at King's Park...

We all went out to the pub after the cruise had finished and then headed into Northbridge, hoping to catch the end of the festival. We were too late though as it had already wound up for the night and so we did the nerdiest thing - we stopped off outside of the Northbridge branch and peered in making comparisons to our own branch! Lets just say I don't think I'd like to work in Northbridge as there's no glass partition between the tellers and the customers. Talk about dodgy!
On Sunday it was our four year wedding anniversary and the day got off to an ok start. We slept in, watched a few of our shows and then headed off to soccer. After soccer it was getting rather hot (36C) so I suggested to Christian that we head off to the beach. Now, considering it was our anniversary, I assumed we'd go by ourselves. Christian however invited along Kat, Mike and Mike.
Now, to be fair, I usually invite them everywhere we go and I really enjoy spending time with each of these people, however, I didn't really want them coming along that day. Not just because it was our anniversary (although that was a large part of the reason) but mainly because Kat, Mike and Mike are the last people I want to go to the beach with.
To explain further, let's just say that I don't really like the beach much. I rarely swim and this may be influenced but the fact that every time I try to get out of the water Greenpeace come and try and coax me back in and when I refuse they pour buckets of water over me to keep me moist.
As you may have noticed, I have rather big self confidence issues. I have about enough self esteem to fill a thimble, if that. Now, Kat is one of those absolutely gorgeous people who everyone wants to be like. Her partner Mike is a health fanatic, rides everywhere, six pack, whole kit and kaboodle. Other Mike is rather athletic too and almost as skinny as Christian.
Then there's me.
I was in tears before we'd even left the house and was feeling like shit. Christian couldn't understand what was upsetting me but being both a boy and almost 20 kilos underweight, he was never going to get it.
And so we got to the beach and I sat on a towel and watched everyone frolic in their bikinis and boardshorts, hating myself more and more as the minutes dragged by.
We had a barbie afterwards and I felt even more isolated as the night went on since I can't really participate in conversations about getting high and which elicit drug you'd like to try next.
That's just not me.
And so the night finally came to and end and I got home and went straight to bed, feeling more lonely than I've ever felt in my life.
Not the best way to spend our anniversary night, that's for sure.
And the worst part about the whole thing is that it's entirely my fault.
I just can't let go and be myself. Not everyone is going to love me for who I am but I can't accept the people who do and to be happy with that and be damned to everyone who doesn't. I care way too much about what other people think of me and I let it affect my confidence levels.
I messaged Christian this morning after he'd left for work to apologise for ruining the day and he made me feel a little better when he messaged back with 'Don't worry, we'll have plenty more to get right'.
I just hope that I don't end up ruining them as well.
