Rant time!

I haven't had a good rant for a while now and I saw something today that annoyed me so I thought 'What the heck, that's what a blog's for'.

Now, as most of you would have figured out from my previous few posts, I'm not the skinniest person in the world. I do like to dress nicely though and go to I'd say the average amount of effort in my appearance. I always try to buy flattering clothes that fit nicely but don't make me look like a granny.

Now, today I was walking across the road from the parking lot to work when I saw a young girl walk up to the ATM. She was probably a size 12, maybe 14 at the most, pretty average I'd say but the thing that made me notice her was the fact that she was muffin-topping ridiculously badly. Her jeans must have been a full size too small for her and she was wearing this tight crop top that really didn't show off her figure to it's full advantage.

I hate it when people do this! If she was wearing jeans that actually fit properly, she would have looked really nice. But instead she looked...skanky.
Is it some obscure sense of pride that makes some women only buy one size of clothing even if it doesn't fit? Because that's just plain dumb. Clothing isn't always the same size. I have clothes that differ by as much as four sizes because one brand varies so much from the next. I'm not going to squeeze myself into something that obviously won't fit just so I can claim to be a certain size.

And you know what makes this really bad? When it's a case of mutton dressed as lamb. I find it particularly frightening when it's a 45 year old woman dressing in her teenage daughters clothes. I understand that you are only as old as you feel, blah blah blah, but come on, have a little decorum. There could be children present for crying out loud.

Ok, rant's over now. I just needed to get that off my chest.

I've always found this to be kind of sad. Who are these people trying to fool? If you go to a store and pick up a size 10 pair of jeans knowing full well that you are a size 12 or 14, who the heck are you trying to impress?

The chick behind the counter doesn't care, and if she does, you shouldn't care that she cares. Anyone you bump into is going to know you're a liar when they try and extract your exploding bits out of their left eye.The only person you are fooling is yourself.

I wear a pair of pants with a 117cm waist. I'm not proud of it, I wish I didn't. When I first met my wife I was lamenting my first pair of 102cm pants. But to buy smaller is stupid and frankly a danger to my circulation.

jagbFirst of all: "muffin-topping"?

My forays into the world of women's clothing sizing has been blessedly limited; I think that I've bought a total of two articles of clothing for a woman without her being there twice in my life (once a t-shirt, and once--being very daring--a dress). But from what I've seen and heard, sizing does seem to be rather haphazard. I would imagine that this makes catalogue shopping rather a challenge.

I think that some women buy clothing that's too small because they plan on shrinking themselves down somehow to fit into it some day. Or else they're just hoping that by buying it at that size, they'll somehow magically become slimmer. For whatever reason, it is a rather common thing from what I see around me day to day. Of course, even when it's fitting properly, female fashion often looks too tight to me.

Today I got to experience my own fun with clothing sizes. I needed to buy some new shirts. Now, to match my height I need to buy "tall" size, and that works out fine. But then comes the matter of matching my width: I need a "large" size to fit my shoulders, but that size is usually apparently made for people who are at least twice as big around in the waist as I am (I have 125cm around my shoulders, and about 77cm at my waist). So most shirts end up looking sort of like I'm wearing a parachute. I am on rare occasions able to find a "tall medium" that is cut in such a way that it fits me, but very rarely. So it seems that men's clothing tends to go the other way from women's; they assume that you are bigger rather than smaller.

Hmmmm. . .I don't know where that opening "jagb" came from. . .those were the last four letters of my word verification. How odd.

Let's see if this posting starts with "gegj".

Heh. I didn't read this until after I'd posted my last post, but I hope you realise that our points coincide.
